A blog that seeks common ground between Christians and Muslims
Picture

A Divine Wink can be defined in many ways. The words “divine wink” are derived from Acts 17:30 in the New Testament, which says, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.” An important Divine Wink is the expression of God's applause when Muslims and Christians, who take their faith in God seriously, come together to overcome ignorance and promote mutual edification and understanding, despite our religious differences. I believe God is dissatisfied with the divisive, zealous, religious arguments that unnecessarily separate good, God-fearing people. I find that most religious misunderstandings occur because of differences in perspective rather than differences in belief.   See also my novel, A Divine Wink: When Love and Religion Become Rivals.

According to the publication, Christianity Today, on this day, "February 8, 356: For the third time since the Council of Nicea in 325, Athanasius goes into exile. The defender of orthodoxy was out of favor as Arianism, a heresy condemned at the council, ran rampant throughout the Empire. He would be exiled twice more before he died." Arianism rejects the doctrines of the deity of Christ and the Trinity. This historical event illustrates how controversial the doctrines of the deity of Christ and the Trinity were in the earliest centuries of the Church. Whether you are trinitarian or not, this historical fact does not justify such a dogmatic position on either side of the issue that it should separate good, God-fearing people who take their faith in God seriously.

Different Orbits

Christians and Muslims tend to circulate in different orbits. They each live in their own world, and, consequently, they have virtually no understanding about the common ground that exists between their two religions. This video seeks to bring these two orbits together to allow members of each religion to see how Christians and Muslims both take their faith in the only true God seriously.

I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims, who take their faith in God seriously, to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences. Please subscribe to my channel at:

An issue which I believe Muslims and Christians fully agree about is the importance of our submission to God. An important requirement for submission to God is to know what God’s will is, which is frequently not so easy to know. I invite you to explore this issue in today’s video.

Islam and Christianity: What Level of Tolerance Is Appropriate?

Among efforts to improve racial, ethnic, and religious relations, the word “tolerance” is a commonly used word. However, the word tolerance has a negative connotation. To achieve tolerance suggests that the goal is to merely put up with our differences. To me that is inadequate. In my view, we must embrace our differences.

The Concept of Taqiyya

In today's Divine Wink video we discuss the misused term “taqiyya.” Many Christian leaders mislead Christians by referring to taqiyya as justification for Muslims to lie to Christians about their religion.

Absolutely Essential Versus Very Important

This video proposes that if Muslims and Christians differentiate between the absolute essentials of our two religions from that which is very important, but not absolutely essential, then we can find the important common ground that exists between Islam and Christianity. The video then seeks to define that which is absolutely essential. As a Program Director with Peace Catalyst International, I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims, who take their faith in God seriously, to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences.

Dr. Safi Kaskas joins me to discuss the dark subject of apostasy. As a Program Director with Peace Catalyst International, I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims, who take their faith in God seriously, to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences.  My YouTube channel is entitled, “A Divine Wink,” which is based on the New Testament quote in Acts 17:30, which says, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.”

Missed Opportunity in Christian & Muslim Relations

The news recently reported that the Turkish government has decided to convert an ancient Orthodox cathedral, called the Hagia Sophia, into a Mosque. This was done, despite the presence of a sizable mosque right beside the Hagia Sophia--a mosque that is more than adequate for Muslims who go to pray there. In this video, Dr. Safi Kaskas, my Muslim friend, and I evaluate the implications of this event for our efforts to seek common ground between Christians and muslims. As a Program Director with Peace Catalyst International, I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims, who take their faith in God seriously, to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences.

One of the first things I learned when I took my algebra class in high school was the transitive property of equality. In this short video, I explore how this absolute mathematical truth unites Jews, Christians, and Muslims, people who take their faith in the only true God seriously. As a Program Director with Peace Catalyst International, I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences.

Misconceptions about Jihad

What is Jihad? If your understanding of Jihad comes from news reports about Islamist extremists who violently kill innocent people, then I recommend you hear my interview with my Muslim friend, Dr. Safi Kaskas. To conclude that all Muslims are Islamist Extremists is as wrong as concluding that all white Christians are members of the Ku Klux Klan. Overwhelmingly, Muslims take their faith in God as seriously as Christians, with the same emphasis on love for God and love for neighbor. As a Program Director with Peace Catalyst International, I seek opportunities for Christians and Muslims, who take their faith in God seriously, to come together for mutual edification and enlightenment, despite our religious differences.
