A blog that seeks common ground between Christians and Muslims

A Divine Wink can be defined in many ways. The words “divine wink” are derived from Acts 17:30 in the New Testament, which says, “And the times of this ignorance God winked at, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.” An important Divine Wink is the expression of God's applause when Muslims and Christians, who take their faith in God seriously, come together to overcome ignorance and promote mutual edification and understanding, despite our religious differences. I believe God is dissatisfied with the divisive, zealous, religious arguments that unnecessarily separate good, God-fearing people. I find that most religious misunderstandings occur because of differences in perspective rather than differences in belief.   See also my novel, Our Love's Rivalry with Religion.

Generally this blog suggests that God winks at the ignorance that separates good, God-fearing people–Christians and Muslims who take their faith in God seriously.  In other words, His wink means that He overlooks such ignorance, with the expectation that God’s truth will move us to reduce divisions and promote peaceful fellowship among Christians and Muslims.

A wink, however, sometimes signifies approval.  This past week, an event took place in Louisville, Kentucky called a Persian Peace Feast.  I was privileged to be in attendance. The event took place at Ramsi’s Cafe on the World, a restaurant that features a broad international cuisine.  For this event, the emphasis was on Persian food and culture from the country currently known as Iran.  However, those in attendance included Christians and Muslims, who came from many Muslim countries. At my table, I sat with women from Iran, Morocco, Tunisia, and a man from Pakistan, as well as a number of Christians.  There were also people from several other countries. Our dining room roared with conversation, laughter, and merriment. And we embodied the slogan, #WeRefuseToBeEnemies.  Truly the event was blessed with the wink of God’s approval.

This Persian Peace Feast was organized by Mr. Martin Brooks, the acting Executive Director. of Peace Catalyst International–whose goal is to follow Jesus by catalyzing peacemaking initiatives that ignite a global peacemaking movement, primarily between Christians and Muslims.
